| 1. The Bandit Dune Buggy
kit fits all VW chassis built prior to the Super Beetle
(approximately 1974). |
| 2. No. Not at this time. Currently,
we are proto-typing our first Super Beetle Bandit and our
Super Beetle kit will be available soon. |
| 3. No! The Bandit
Dune Buggy body was designed to fit onto the VW chassis without
any cutting or welding! |
| 4. The standard
colors are Red, Yellow, Orange, Blue, Green, White
and Gray. Other solid Gel-Cote colors are available at
an additional cost. Metal flake Gel-Cote is available
ONLY on the Bandit 2 at an additional cost! |
| 5. How much money do you
want to spend? Because the Bandit Dune Buggy is extremely
light, a stock 1641cc VW engine is quite an effective engine.
For maximum performance, some customers have installed VW
stroker motors as large as 2332cc with over 210 horsepower.
One customer built a 2.0 liter Ford motor-powered Bandit
on a custom tube chassis. We are building two long-travel
Bandits powered by V-6 V-Tec Honda motors. Another customer
is in the process of building a turbo-powered Subaru Bandit.
And another is thinking of installing a Mazda rotary engine
and another is going to use a Nissan 350Z motor. The possibilities
are endless! |
| 6. The stock VW chassis (pan)
will only allow so much wheel travel. Using wider and longer
swing arms gives additional travel because the wheel and
tire are farther from the pivot point of the torsion tube.
The most that we have been able to obtain from a stock VW
chassis is approximately 15" of
travel in the front and 16" in the rear with huge King
coil-over shocks. Additional travel can be obtained with the
use of a tube chassis and A-Arm suspension. |
| 7. Yes. You can use most of the parts that
came from the VW Beetle including seats, tail lights, gas tank,
etc. But many of the aftermarket replacement parts that we offer
as options look and fit the dune buggy better than the stock
parts. |
| 8. No. There is no law requiring a roll bar
or roll cage but we highly recommend one or the other for
obvious safety reasons and because of the extremely light
weight of the dune buggy. |
| 9. Yes. While the stock VW fuel tank is the
easiest installation, aftermarket tanks with a larger capacity
are available and many customers have installed racing-style
fuel cells for increased capacity and safety. |
| 10. The majority of the work can be performed
with common tools. Air tools can make the job a little
easier. A drill motor, bits and hole saw are necessary for
mounting holes and to cut the holes in the
dash for the gauges. If you
are going to build your own roll bar or roll cage, a welder,
pipe cutter and tubing notcher are necessary. |
| 11. We can install just about
anything you want including stereos, speakers and amplifiers. |
| 12. Tri-Sport is our designation
for a vehicle that can be legally be used on the street as
well as on dirt and in the sand! |
| 13. Bandit™ Dune Buggies can easily
be made street-legal providing you have all of the DMV-required
components like head lights, tail lights, horn, etc. |
| 14. In california, any chassis
manufactured before 1975 is exempt from the smog test regulations.
If the chassis (pan) was manufactured after 1975, the dune
buggy MUST have all of the original emission controls present
that came with the original engine! |
| 15. In order
to complete the 95% Turn-Key cars, you must install and connect
a battery as well as install seat belts or harnesses! |
